SF2049 passed committee!

SF2049, is the Senate companion bill to HF1764 in the House of Representatives. Because HF1764 and SF2049 has passed committee on both sides, the bill WILL BE HEARD on the floor in front of everyone in the legislature. If it passes there, it makes it possible for the State Historic Preservation Office to submit the change in the historic district.

In the Senate committee the language that says

"Coldwater Springs, as the birthplace of Minnesota, and as a sacred origin site of the Dakota Nation. Since 1805, these lands were part of a United States military reserve, later Fort Snelling Military Reserve, and formerly were used by the Bureau of Mines."

has been stricken out. However the core of the bill is still intact, the part that restores the Ft Snelling Historic boundary to it's original size and includes the Coldwater Spring, and the immediate land around it (but not the entire Bureau of Mines land).
